Bailey's General Store supports 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. -- Family-run store devoted to community for
Bailey's General Store, The Coffee Bar @ Bailey's and Sanibel Catering Company are taking part in the 8th Annual 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H., which is Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Sanibel Community Park. Sanibel Catering Co. and The Coffee Bar @ Bailey's will once again be the providers of all things good to fuel runners and their supporters.
Bailey's General Store is providing back-pack style bags to carry race day treats for runners – something the long-established island grocery and hardware store has done since the inaugural run. Bailey's General Store, formerly known as Sanibel Packing Company, was started by Frank P. Bailey, who wanted to provide groceries and general supplies to locals and visitors.
“Since 1895, the Bailey family has been working to build the community on our island,” said Richard Johnson, owner of Bailey's General Store with his wife Mead (Bailey). “Three generations later, that drive and will to improve without harming our little piece of paradise still goes on today. The third generation is proud to play a part in that and is planning for the fourth generation to carry on that tradition.”
Today's Bailey's General Store provides tailored services to everyone from the first-time guest to the life-long resident, which includes a fully-stocked grocery store, deli and butcher shop, seafood market, bakery and a hardware department. With 117 years as a family-run business, it has blended a rich history with cutting-edge services of today while keeping customer service as the cornerstone. The family's longtime commitment to their community has brought the three entities together in support of the 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. - an event that draws hundreds of runners from near and far for a good cause.
“Our island community is blessed with a population of people that care,” said Johnson. “Our environment, wildlife and, most of all, other people are important to us all. F.I.S.H. is one of several organizations in our island community that provides for others, but F.I.S.H. also provides the structure and organization to multiply our singular efforts as a larger group.”
Race proceeds support the non-profit F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Inc., an organization which has impacted the lives of thousands of residents and visitors through its various Helping Hands programs and food pantry. It has been a part of the community for more than three decades – facilitating neighbors helping neighbors. Its team of volunteers have transported clients to non-emergency medical appointments, delivered hot meals to home-bound clients and provided nutritious meals to youth in need.
“Without organizations such as F.I.S.H., CROW and Community Housing and Resources the fabric of our community would not be near as strong or colorful,” said Johnson. “Mead and I are proud to be a part of this organization and the great work that they contribute to our island community.”
