Sanibel Community Church Returns as Gold Sponsor of 8th Annual 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H.

The Sanibel Community Church continues its Gold sponsorship of the 8th Annual 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H., an island foot race that draws hundreds of runners for a worthy cause. Race proceeds benefit the non-profit organization F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP, which provides valuable human services to those who need it most in our community.

“We are delighted to have Sanibel Community Church as a partner of F.I.S.H. and the 10K race,” said Ed Ridlehoover, co-chair of the 10K committee. “People like the church's congregation make it possible for F.I.S.H. to continue helping our neighbors in need.”

S.C.C. and F.I.S.H. became partners 10 years ago when the church hosted a community fish fry to raise funds for the non-profit. “The relationship has grown deeper over the years,” said Senior Pastor Dr. Daryl Donovan. S.C.C. first sponsored the 10k race in its fifth year and members continue to volunteer on race day and take part as runners.

“Many of our teens participate in the race, which is a great way to get them involved in community service,” said Youth Pastor Kevin Schafer. S.C.C. was founded a century ago as a non-denominational church under the belief that would best serve the islands – making “community” its middle name. The congregation remains dedicated to the community and is delighted to have F.I.S.H. as a neighbor.

“We love how F.I.S.H. is a pooling place where all of the churches can partner in lending support for the needs of our community,” said Missions Pastor Brad Livermon. “While each church on the island supports specific outreach ministries, F.I.S.H. provides a common channel of help to any who have a need on the islands.”

F.I.S.H. has been fulfilling its mission of lending a helping hand to those who work, live or visit the islands since it was founded more than three decades ago. The new Walk-In Center, 2430-B Periwinkle Way, has allowed for an expanded food pantry and more space to better serve its clients.

“We are thrilled to partner with F.I.S.H. in lending a helping hand to our neighbors,” said Donovan.

The Sanibel Community Church, 1740 Periwinkle Way, offers diverse opportunities of worship:

8 a.m. - Traditional service in the historic chapel with communion as the focus

9 a.m. - Contemporary service with full praise band

11 a.m. – The powerful church organ fills the air with traditional hymns of praise

A strong Biblical message of encouragement and hope is preached each Sunday. “Sanibel Community Church is a non-denominational evangelical congregation with a passion to serve and to proclaim God's extravagant mercy and love,” said Pastor Donovan. All are welcome to worship.
