F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Inc. Sponsors Mobile Mammogram
Women of all ages will have local access to mammography services on Thurs., Sept. 8 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. when FISH sponsors the Radiology Regional Center Mobile Mammogram, stationed at the Bailey’s
General Store parking lot. This service is made possible through a partnership with The Zonta Foundation of SWFL Sanibel-Captiva Club, and no prescription is necessary. The Radiology Regional Center’s Mobile Mammography Coach is a customized, mobile breast-imaging clinic, bringing the latest technology in digital mammography directly to you. Convenience, state of the art technology, and exceptional quality are the reasons why women choose this service.
Through the FISH/Zonta partnership, FISH promotes the Radiology Regional Center Mobile Mammogram once quarterly, to give everyone the option to participate in this very important medical testing. Last May, a single mother with three children approached FISH for assistance, since, due to lack of insurance, she had not had a mammogram for over 3 years. After completing their intake interview, it was determined that FISH was able to assist her. Her mammogram results mandated additional testing, an ultrasound and a subsequent biopsy of her left breast. FISH counseled and managed her case throughout the testing procedures, and is pleased to report that she had a benign cyst. She was very relieved to not have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and cannot thank FISH and Zonta enough for their help and attention to this very important, potentially life-saving opportunity.
Mammograms continue to be the gold standard and the key to life-saving early detection of breast cancer. Early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival. Those wishing to set up an appointment or learn more about the program may call Jessi Zeigler, M.S.W., Program Director at FISH, 239-472-4775. FISH may be able to provide financial assistance to those without insurance or with limited financial resources. Each case is evaluated privately, on an individual and per instance basis, through a detailed intake process by FISH; there is no guarantee of financial assistance from FISH.
