Lion's Club Adds to 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. Support as Gold Sponsor
Sanibel Captiva Lions Club has become a Gold Sponsor of the 8th Annual 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H., but its members have long been volunteering on race day. Though the Lions Club has been a supporter of F.I.S.H. of SANCAP since it began three decades ago, this is the first year for its race gold sponsor designation.
“We couldn't be more delighted to provide additional support for F.I.S.H.” said Club President Debi Almeida. “Our members believe in the homegrown island charity that distributes food and money where needed and being a 10K race sponsor shows our support in a wonderful way.”
The Sanibel Captiva Lions Club was chartered the day after Christmas in 1967. Members continue to make a difference in the community by volunteering much of their time and supporting organizations like F.I.S.H. and projects like Recycle for Sight. The club is host of the popular Arts & Crafts Fair each March and sells Christmas trees each December.
“Those two great events support worthy causes including sight-based services, academic scholarships and local community needs,” said Almeida. “Last year, the club was able to donate a total of $95,000 to our charities. We were very gratified with that success.”
In addition, the club's scholarship committee administers scholarship aid annually and offers the Francis Bailey Scholarship to two well-qualified students.
“The Lion's Club has been dedicated to helping those in need while making our community a better place to live,” said 10K Race Committee Co-Chair Nancy Bender. “We have always been grateful for their assistance with parking on race day and are thrilled to have their additional support as a gold sponsor.”
