Helping Neighbors: F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP Sponsors Boost Your Credit Score through EmpowerU™ by Fifth Th
F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP working with Cheryl McConahy, Vice President and Branch Manager of Fifth Third Bank, is offering a complimentary workshop through their EmpowerU™ Program. The second in the series, Boost Your Credit Score, is for those who want to learn techniques to move their score to a higher level, and keep it there. The workshop will be held at the Sanibel Public Library from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thurs. Oct. 27.
McConahy will discuss the importance of a good credit score and methods to help improve credit rating. According to McConahy, a credit score reflects credit payment patterns over time, with more emphasis on recent information. Methods to insure your credit score is working in your favor include:
Paying your bills on time. Delinquent payments and collections can have a major negative impact on a credit score.
Having both revolving (credit card) and installment (loan) types of credit.
Keeping balances low on credit cards and other “revolving credit.” High outstanding debt can affect a credit score.
Applying for and opening new credit accounts only as needed. Don’t open accounts just to have a better credit mix. It probably won’t improve your credit score.
Paying off debt rather than moving it around. Also, don’t close unused cards as a short-term strategy to improve your credit score.
“EmpowerU™ allows individuals to start with basic budgeting and moves them forward toward paying off debt and, even possible homeownership. Fifth Third has created a wraparound program that serves people in all financial situations and moves them closer to their financial goals,” states Jessi Zeigler, FISH Program Director.
F.I.S.H. will continue offering EmpowerU™ segments throughout the season and into 2017. For additional information or to RSVP, please contact Jessi or Joi at FISH at 239-472-4775.
