Helping Neighbors: F.I.S.H. Program Presentation: ‘Diabetes 101
F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP, with Wendy Warner, RN, Parish Nurse, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal church, is offering a community presentation, ‘Diabetes 101’, on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, from 1:00-2:00 PM at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. This workshop is for persons who would like to learn about diabetes and for the person who is diabetic. The presenter will speak about the value of good nutrition, give examples of an appropriate daily meal plan, discuss a good A1C range and give examples of effective exercise and physical activity that does not include training for a triathlon. Participants will be guided towards healthy ways to live with and manage diabetes.
F.I.S.H. Facilitator, Program Director Kathy Y. Monroe, states, “During this session, a myth will be disputed. Diabetes does not come from eating sugar. It is the result of how your body processes insulin. It is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose. This will be an opportunity for individuals interested in learning more about diabetes, or those with diabetes, to learn about new treatment options and possible new medications. Management of the disease can lead to a comfortable, quality lifestlye.”
This seminar is open to the community and lunch will be provided. For additional information and to RSVP, contact Kathy Y. Monroe at (239) 472-4775.
