Helping Neighbors: F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP Provides Holiday Baskets
At F.I.S.H. the demand for assistance increases around Christmas time. This is when most families are trying to provide food, gifts, and a joyous time for their families and children. Oftentimes there is the ongoing struggle with trying to provide for your family while paying regular monthly bills.
F.I.S.H. OF SANCAP administers a Holiday Assistance Program where families can get help around Christmas. Food baskets are offered to struggling households who are known to the FISH Social Services Department. A focus is on families with children, as they should never go without during a holiday period, even if their parents are struggling. Seniors and individuals needing a hand up may also benefit from this program.
Thanks to FISH Donors, Community Partners and Volunteers, baskets of canned food, fresh and canned vegetables, holiday ‘goodies’ and a gift card to purchase a protein of choice will be assembled and distributed just in time for the holiday. This year, FISH anticipates up to 100 Holiday Baskets will be distributed to our neighbors. Basket distribution will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on December 19th-21st.
"Many are still suffering from the loss of work over the summer and they still haven’t caught up with their bills," says Nitza Lopez, FISH Case Worker. “We hope to take some of the financial burden off while focusing on the spirit of the holiday by providing a food basket with all the fixings for a wonderful holiday meal.”
