Understanding Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia-Related Diseases
FISH OF SANCAP, Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center, Oasis Senior Advisors and Captiva Civic Association, is offering a presentation, Understanding Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia-Related Diseases on Monday, January 27 from 10:00 am –11:30 am at the Captiva Civic Association, 11550 Chapin Ln, Captiva 33924. Virtual dementia tours will be offered between 9:00 am- 1:00 pm.
Mary Freyre, RN, Health Education Specialist, Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center will lead the presentation. Participants will learn the definition, characteristics and stages of Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases while understanding the challenging behaviors of those afflicted with these diseases. Emphasis will be placed on caregiver stress and community resources.
An 8-minute virtual dementia tour, led and sponsored by Cindy Walker, Owner and Senior Living Advisor, Oasis Senior Advisors, will be offered beginning at 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. During the dementia tour, participants will experience the daily routine of a person with a dementia-related disease. Participants may also sign-up to schedule a memory screening which will be held at later date.
Kathy Y. Monroe, Program Director, FISH, states, “Alzheimer’s is a complicated disease. Many times persons use the term Alzheimer’s disease when speaking about any type of memory loss. There will be discussion about all dementia-related diseases, of which Alzheimer’s is just one. This will be an opportunity to gather facts and information about neurocognitive diseases that affects not only patient but also their family and friends.”
