Complimentary Tax Return Preparation at FISH Walk-In Center
The United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers tax assistance for qualified taxpayers. IRS certified volunteers will be on-site to prepare taxes for free for households earning $66,000 or less per year.
Beginning Friday, February 7, VITA will offer tax preparation, by appointment, at the F.I.S.H. Walk-In Center, 2430 Periwinkle Way Suite B, Sanibel, from 9 a.m.—1.p.m. Additional appointment times are February 14, 21 and 28; March 6 and 20, and Friday, April 3. VITA will also be available at the Sanibel Public Library, 770 Dunlop Rd, Sanibel, on Thursday, March 12 and 19 from 3-7pm. Times are subject to change.
VITA preparers are IRS certified trained volunteers that can inform taxpayers about special tax credits that may be applicable such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for Elderly or the Disabled. Individuals scheduled to have their tax return completed must bring the following. Additional documents may be requested.
Valid picture I.D. and birthdates for everyone on the tax return
Social security or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) for each family member and working adult
All earning statements (W-2, W-2G, 1099s)
Total paid for daycare and provider business’ EIN
Did you buy insurance from the marketplace? Affordable Health Care Statements (1095-A) or Health Insurance Exemption
Interest and dividend statements
Last year’s tax return
Any other tax documents you received
If you are filing a joint return, both you and your spouse must be present.
