Celebrating 38 Years at FISH OF SANCAP Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
FISH OF SANCAP, the non-profit organization that provides programs, services and workshops for those that live, work on or visit Sanibel and Captiva Islands, held its annual meeting and volunteer recognition luncheon on Wednesday, February 19 at The Sanibel Community House.
Special guests included The Big Arts Chorus who entertained guests prior lunch, catered by Sanibel Catering by Bailey’s. FISH celebrated their volunteers, who tirelessly provide treasures of time, to assist island neighbors. In 2019, FISH volunteers provided 7,455 hours of service and drove 34,147 miles on behalf of F.I.S.H. and our neighbors.
Financial information was presented showing that 93.5% of all donations go directly to FISH programming. States Alicia Tighe, Executive Director for FISH, “We feel grateful every day that we are able to give our neighbors the greatest gift of all, which is to breathe a little easier knowing their community supports them. I’m proud to say that in 2019 we were able to grow our capacity to provide services in nearly all of our programs thanks to the generosity of the Sanibel and Captiva communities. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue to grow our programs not just in people-served or services offered, but to focus breadth and depth of what we’re providing. In particular, we’re anticipating a more multi-dimensional food pantry program, considering nutrition and wellness in all products provided; targeting issues such as senior isolation and caregiver support; and creating more viable pathways for clients to become self-sufficient through our adult scholarship program.”
If you are not familiar with FISH, please call for a tour so you can meet their staff and see, first hand, how the agency works to help our neighbors. FISH is the only Human Services Organization on Sanibel and Captiva, and, for 38 years, FISH has been a "neighbors helping neighbors" organization offering a wide range of human services.
