FISH OF SANCAP, in partnership with the Sanibel Community House, is pleased to invite the community to a Thanksgiving Celebration and Butterfly Release on Fri., Nov. 17 beginning at 2:00pm. The event will offer a Thanksgiving meal provided by Jerry’s Foods, followed by a butterfly release beginning at 4:00pm.
“Our community has been through so much over the last 14 months and we wanted to take a moment to show our gratitude for how far we’ve come,” says Maria Espinoza, Executive Director, FISH. “While there is still much to do, we are so thankful for the opportunity to serve our community as we rebuild together.”
FISH is combining a Thanksgiving meal with a butterfly release to symbolize transformation, hope and connection. A traditional turkey dinner, an island favorite, will be provided by Jerry’s and includes turkey sliced with gravy, sweet mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. Beverages, other trimmings and dessert will be provided. FISH thanks Jerry’s and the Sanibel Community House for their partnership.
FISH and guests will release Zebra Longwing butterflies which, according Becka Grotrian from SCCF, have yet to be seen on Sanibel since the storm. The FISH team is excited to give the species a “fresh start” on the islands. FISH will also distribute biodegradable seed packs containing seeds of milk weed and other plant species. Guests can take one home and plant it in their yard to attract butterflies.
