Volunteers

Undoubtedly our volunteers are the lifeblood of FISH! In 2023, our volunteers provided 10,603 hours of service on behalf of clients and drove nearly 24,000 miles that year.

These are examples of duties performed by our wonderful volunteers:

Backpack Program Duties may include any of the following: Packing food items, delivering the backpacks, picking up the backpacks, shopping for items for the backpacks.

Equipment Delivery/Pick-up meeting clients at the equipment room or their homes for them to obtain equipment or to return it

Events Volunteers are needed to help at a variety of events that could include any of the following: a meet-and-greet person, help with set-up and/or clean up, decorating, handing out information brochures or answering questions.

Food Pantry There are a variety of duties from which to choose:

  1. Pick up food from various businesses and/or organizations that collect for the Food Pantry or donate to the Food Pantry. May be on or off island.
  2. Delivering food to off-island agencies
  3. Shopping for needed supplies for the Food Pantry
  4. Help sort and store large deliveries

Hurricane Information Committee Volunteers visit various clients during May to gather information about the client and the client’s evacuations plans, to deliver a Hurricane Packet and thoroughly explain the contents of the Hurricane Packet to the client.

Meal Delivery Volunteers pick up and deliver a hot meal to specific clients.

Transport ON / OFF Island Volunteer drives a client to and from a medical or other appointment. Visitation/Respite Volunteer visits with a client who may be homebound or whose caregiver needs a respite break.

Events FISH hosts several fundraising and community distribution events throughout the year. Duties may include: meet and greet, making calls, stuffing and preparing envelopes for mailing, check-in, set up and other duties as may be needed.
