Frances Tutt Shares Information on Organic Growing Practices at monthly FISH OF SANCAP Luncheon

Islanders, friends and family are invited to the community-wide FISH OF SANCAP Friendly Faces Luncheon, scheduled for Tues., Jan. 9 beginning at 11:00am.

Says Erika Broyles, Senior Services Director, FISH. “With so many returning to the islands for ‘season’, we hope you will join us at our 2024 Friendly Faces kick-off. We’ve scheduled a great line up of speakers for the New Year, and we will continue with our interactive games and giveaways. Sanibel Deli will provide the delicious lunches, complimentary to all guests.”

The 2024 monthly luncheons are held at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, each 2nd Tuesday of the month. A virtual option is also provided. Reservations and meal choices are required by Fri., Jan. 5 to Erika Broyles at FISH at 239-472-4775.  Zoom instructions for those joining virtually will be provided with RSVP. There is no meal delivery available for virtual participants.

At the January luncheon, local resident Frances Tutt will share her experience and tips on how to create a thriving vegetable garden on the islands. Tutt has learned that Southwest Florida is a unique and challenging ecosystem, and she will provide resources to help gardeners of all levels.

Tutt will discuss her unique experiences while working as a food scientist for McCormick. She was employed with McCormick for 30 years in the industrial flavor division and, before retiring as a principal scientist in 2018, worked with flavor chemists to develop beverages for huge manufacturing companies such as Anheuser-Busch.

In this presentation Frances will discuss how she is growing healthy and organic food on Sanibel and will share information from books, YouTube channels and other resources she uses. Says Tutt, “I admit that I’m on a never-ending learning journey and hope you will find some benefit from hearing what has and has not worked for me over the years. I look forward to seeing you in January!” For more information on the FISH Friendly Faces Luncheon or to RSVP, contact Erika Broyles at FISH at 239-472-4775.
